När man söker till universitet i USA så söker man inte direkt till ett program utan till skolan. Fördelen med detta är att studenten kan välja på plats vilken linje eller så kallat ”major” hon eller han vill läsa. Man vill ändå välja en skola som erbjuder det man vill studera.
Vi har grupperat huvudämnena i två listor. Den första listan sammanfattar linjer som finns på de flesta universitet i USA medan andra listan är mindre vanliga huvudämnen.
