Soft Landing camp New York
What do you say about visiting the world’s coolest city?
No matter where in the US you will be during your High School year, you start with 3 days in New York. New York is even called the Big Apple and without a doubt the most powerful city in the world to visit. It has everything and even more. Small cozy restaurants in Little Italy, crazy markets in Chinatown, trendy diners in Meatpacking District, cool cafés in Greenwich Village, fear of heights on top of the Empire State building, shopping on 5th Avenue, and diverse people wherever you turn. One usually says it’s fun to be bored in New York. When you’ve been there, you’ll understand.
Soft Landing Camp starts your arrival to the US. Because schools in the US start on different dates, we can’t say when your soft landing camp will be until after your placement is complete. However, it will probably be during August. You will stay at a hotel with other Explorius students and personnel. It is only English that’s allowed so brush off your language skills before your departure. You will eat breakfast at the hotel and other meals you buy at different places all around the city.
During the day you are out and exploring New York City. Free time is spent hanging out as well as discussing what you can expect in your new homeland, school, how it works in an American family, and how to best spend your first days in the new country. Together with other students, you will discuss expectations, exchange thoughts about your exchange year and pep each other for the big adventure ahead of you.
Since you already have received a lot of information about your year abroad in the US, we aren’t going to have lessons on the matter. Instead, we focus on having fun during the Soft Landing Camp in New York. We do this through exploring the city to the max together with our own private guide. We do sightseeing on our own bus with guided group walks. We walk across the impressive Brooklyn Bridge and hold our closest friend’s hands when we look over the edge, we hang out in Central Park, we check out Wall Street, Ground Zero, Grand Central Station and much much more. Everyone together with a guide, we make sure we don’t miss anything. Of course you will also have some free time for shopping! They will be long days so make sure that you are well rested before departure. Luckily the hotel has a nice pool that you can hang out at before dinner.
The last day is spent having breakfast, gathering together, and departure for the airport, the last leg before arriving at your final destination where your host family is waiting. Along with your luggage, you will have a new list will all the email addressed of your new friends as well as a lot of fun memories and experiences that will help you throughout your year in the US.
