Hur en utbytesstudent kan påverka an amerikansk student i USA
Vi pratar hela tiden om hur en utbytesår påverkar en student- man blir mer mogen och självständig samt skapar en bättre förståelse for olika kulturer. Det är spännande för en svensk student att åka på High School-år och uppleva nya saker – mat, Prom, School Pride, osv men det kan vara lika spännande för en amerikansk värdfamilj eller elev på skolan att ta emot en utbytesstudent. Vår student Frida som tillbringar sitt utbytesår i Illinois och har blivit bästa kompis med an amerikansk tjej, Paige. Paige berättar om hur hon träffade Frida och hur det deras vänskap ha påverkat henne.
“I first met Frida at a school function held at our park, I saw the diamond in her tooth and instantly knew that she must be pretty awesome! … It’s so cool that she is from Sweden, and it’s fun to ask her questions about it. Sweden seems a lot cooler than the United States! It is cool because here they don’t teach us anything about the world. We only know about the U.S. And being friends with her I have really been able to learn a lot about the world! I now know were Sweden is on a map, which I did not know before! Frida asked me to point to Sweden and I pointed to a part of Africa… Whoops! That is embarrassing. I feel very dumb that I did that now!
It is sad to think that she did not move here permanently, but is only an exchange student here. She told me that she has six more months here. That is not enough! At all!!! However, I hope I will be able to go to Sweden some day and visit. Which is another opportunity I would never have had if I didn’t meet Frida. I am so glad that she decided to do the foreign exchange program. I never would have thought that I would have such a close friend who lives so far away! Having a foreign exchange student as my friend is definitely awesome.”
